Metatarsus Adductus

Metatarsus adductus (MTA) is a common foot deformity noted at birth. It causes the front half of the child’s foot (forefoot) to turn inward. The foot may still be flexible. This means it can be straightened to a degree by hand. Or it may be nonflexible. This means it can’t be straightened by hand.

We have invented a new, single staged, surgical procedure for correction of neglected and recurrent clubfoot deformities in the year 2004. Till today, more than 2000 children with neglected or recurrent clubfoot deformities, from various part of India, have been successfully treated at our Institute with this new technique.

Scientific basis:

The surgical technique described by us has been published in one of the prestigious journal from USA, called “CURRENT ORTHOPAEDIC PRACTICE”. The study also was presented during the best paper session in a combined meet of POSI (Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of India) and POSNA (Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America) held at Pune in Feb 2012.In medical science since we are dealing with human subjects, the newer surgical procedures are implemented only after we come to know their safety, reliability and usefulness in long term follow ups. We are having more than 12 year follow up many of our cases and they are doing extremely well with the described surgical procedure
